Come Thou Fount Of Every Blessing Ukulele Tutorial
If you are looking for an incredibly easy and beautiful song to play on the ukulele, this is the one! Today we're going to learn "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing." It's a gorgeous melody that feels instantly recognizable.
The best part? It only takes three basic chords. We'll walk through exactly how to play it, learn a versatile strumming pattern, and then jump into a full play-along so you can practice your transitions.
The 3 Essential Chords
You only need to know three shapes for this entire song: C, G, and F. That makes it the perfect progression for absolute beginners.
C Major
G Major
F Major
Strumming Patterns
We have a few options for the strumming pattern. You can mix and match these throughout the song!
1. The Simple Strum
If you want to keep it really simple, you can just do standard down strums on the beat.
2. The Preferred Strum
The strumming pattern that I like is a bit more intricate but flows beautifully through the song.
3. The Transition Strum
Typically, when I'm between verses, I like to shake up the strumming pattern with some alternating down/up strums at the end to build momentum.

Is there a better way to write the strumming? It just seems like it would make much more sense to separate the down and ups according to their rhythm patterns such as, DDU, UDU, UDU, DU, DU, DU. Is this correct? Please correct me if I'm wrong, so I can practice it the right way. Also, it seems like I don't have enough time to do the entire pattern between each chord.
Hi Andrea, yes, you could totally separate it that way! I've actually been struggling to find better ways to write strum patterns because I'm not sure the best way to do it. I usually have just learned from others demonstrating and then following along with that. I noticed the pattern you wrote is the one that I occasionally throw in between verses, but not the main pattern which would be more like: DDU UDU UDU UDUI hope that helps! And sorry for the late reply, we had another baby three months ago so things have been busy! π
Ok, That makes sense! Thank you for replying, and congratulations to you both for your new baby. β€

Beautiful π€© can you recommend the ukulele to buy?
Thanks! It really depends a lot on your budget, but I personally like Kala ukuleles a lot. If you have a music store nearby you should go try out a few. Also: Even a cheap ukulele will sound pretty great with Aquila strings.
